Louise Brough Clapp – Tennis Class of 1940                   
Louise Brough grew up on the 400 block of South Rodeo.  She attended Beverly Vista for three days and then transferred to El Rodeo.  It was at El Rodeo that her friend, Courtaney Perren asked her to play tennis at Roxbury Park.  At the age of 17, Louise started playing tennis on the junior tour winning the Under 18 Title in 1940 and 1941.  During her career she accumulated an overwhelming string of wins including: 13 wins at Wimbledon including 4 singles titles, 5 doubles and 4 mixed; Australian Grand Slam in 1950 for singles and doubles; 17 wins at the U.S. Championship at Forest Hills; One doubles win at the French Open.  Louise was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1967.

Steve Craig – Baseball, Basketball, Football and Volleyball – Class of 1975
Steve was all CIF in Football and Basketball and All League in Volleyball.  He was named the Helms Foundation Southern California Athlete of the Year and named to the 1975 All-Southern California Division Basketball First Team AAA.  Steve also played varsity baseball for two years.  Steve went on to a storied basketball career at BYU where he was on the roster for four seasons.  He played with Danny Ainge for three seasons including BYU’s Final Four team that included a number of future NBA players on it.  During the 3/14/81 game against UCLA, Steve had seven assists which ties him for the third best assist record in BYU NCAA tournament play.  Steve was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 5th round in 1981.

Jeff James - Football, Basketball and Track – Class of 1983
Jeff was a 3 sport varsity athlete; football, basketball and track.  He was LA Times All West Side in Football for 1982 and 1983.  He still holds the BHHS record for receptions in a single game – 16.  Jeff was a California State Finalist in Track in the 400 meters.  Jeff was a wide received at Stanford for all 4 years.  He was All Pac-10 second team in 1986 and 1987.  He still holds several records at Stanford including:  Top ten all time in touchdown receptions in a career – 17 and top ten in 100 yards receiving games.  Jeff was drafted in the 7th round of the 1988 by the Detroit Lions.  He went to play a part of two seasons for the Lions and the Cowboys.  Jeff has been working at Nike Inc for the past 12 years.                          

Ralph Punaro – Football, Basketball, Baseball – Class of 1967
Ralph played multiple sports:  Two years varsity football - all league; three years varsity basketball - all league for two; three years varsity baseball - all league and 1st team all CIF.   Ralph attended Los Angeles City College and played Baseball.  He transferred to UCLA on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology.  Ralph played two years profession baseball in Italy.  Ralph coached baseball at Los Angeles City College for 6 years, then began coaching and teaching at South Pasadena High School.  Ralph has been at SPHS 23 years.  

Irv Zakheim – Football, Basketball and Baseball – Class of 1967
Irv holds the BHHS basketball record for most points in a game (50) and most points scored during the BHHS tournament (123).  He also held baseball records for batting average (.520) and stolen bases. Irv played both sports at LACC, where he posted 43 points in a single game and was named All-Western Conference First Team. He moved on to CSUN, where he broke the record for stolen bases and was a member of the 1970 NCAA Championship team. After college, Irv played with the Chicago White Sox for two years before starting Zak Designs.   Washington. In 2007, Irv rekindled his fire for baseball when he bought the Spokane RiverHawks, a local summer collegiate baseball team, a part of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.

The McCarthy Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of Justin McCarthy W’41 and Joanne Crawley McCarthy S’42
Justin McCarthy was the founding President of the Beverly Hills Alumni Association in 1978.  He served in that role until about 1993 when Joanne joined him in their rolls as the Alumni Affairs Directors.  In this capacity, they assisted other alums in finding their former classmates and assisting reunions committees.  They remained with Alumni Affairs until 2001-2002.  Joanne passed away in April, 2007.
